A total of 6400 participants enjoyed the 9th edition of MUTEK Barcelona, International Festival of Digital Creativity.
This edition has seen the festival grow in all aspects, programming a total of 17 events in a large number of distinct locations distributed throughout the city: Antigua Fábrica Estrella Damm, Barts, Nitsa / Astin, Mazda Space, Institut Français, Laut, imaginCafé, Hiroshima, Movistar stores and Mobile World Center, Bajo Fondo Club, Soho House, Macarena Club, Atipico, Switch Pocket Club, which where all connected by the 10 restaurants chosen in our culinary route.
This ninth edition hosted 40 artistic projects from 10 different nationalities, with 23 premieres, 17 Spanish debuts, 18 Barcelona debuts and 3 new collaborations generated by the festival.
We enjoyed stellar performances from Italian composer Caterina Barbieri with here synthesized landscapes; the union of British producer of bass and grime Mumdance with black metal guitarist WIFE presenting their project Bliss Signal; the acclaimed sound and visual interpretation of ¨Train Fragments¨ by Herman Kolgen and Frames Percussion; the premiere in Spain of the live show of British producer Beatrice Dillon; the premiere of Robert Lippok’s new album; and the live premiere of Dj Python, presenting his album «Dulce Compañía».
Surprise! A final world premiere takes place here and now. During the festival and with the support of Reebok Classic, we presented the Hidden MUTEK event, only for a small group of attendees with the premiere of the video of Belief Defect´s single, «Unnatural Instinct» on Raster Media. A meticulous artistic piece shot, directed, edited and hand-painted by Piero Fragola and Matteo Giampaglia, a timelapse of innumerable real paintings created one by one. Together with the artists and Raster Media, the video is now finally premiered online via MUTEK Barcelona!
The soul and mandate of this edition has focused, more than ever, on collaboration, building bridges through our international network, generating synergies with the local community and serving as a real platform to promote and cultivate artistic communities in the field of Creativity and Technology. The festival has also focused on current situations, both in the creative industry and in the world in general, which need to be treated with greater importance, such as visibility to the local scene, support for networks in favor of gender equality and opening the discourse on censorship and the difficult situation experienced by artists in other areas of the world and currently in Spain.
We want to specially thank the support of each of the Sponsors, Institutions, Collaborators and Media Partners that made this edition possible: Estrella Damm, Mazda, La Vanguardia, Reebok, Jägermeister, Consell des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, Canada Embassy in Spain, Institut Francais, Ajuntament de Barcelona, Nitsa/Astin, Laut, La Vanguardia, Radio3 _ Rne, Resident Advisor, DJ Mag España, Beatburguer, Clubbingspain, Parkett (IT) , TiU, OHM-Mag, Good2b, Urban MAGZ, Blograma FM, Dod Magazine, Denso Mag, TST So i Llums, LiveSoundtracks, CutOff, Microfusa, Onionlab, Ableton, dublab.es, Protopixel, MT Consulting
